EQUINE COLIC RELIEF - THE BEGINNING
The ECR misson began one cold night in 1995 when a bunch of trailriding friends sat around a campfire talking about their horses and their various experiences with equine trials and tribulations. The talk turned to colic and how horrible it was to watch your beloved equine suffer and possibly die from a devastating predicament that you could not stop or control. Right then and there the friends decided that it would be their goal to Stop Colic and Save Horses and they started on a mission to figure out what had to be done.
They purchased a Canadian Patented Formula from a brilliant doctor of marine biology. It contained two ingredients that when harvested from the sea were capable of entering a fecal impaction containing bits of hay, feed, dirt, grass, sand, etc and softening it to a pudding like consistency. They hired a bio-chemist in Nova Scotia whose lab had recently completed a five year study on impactions in equines. That lab devloped the final product - Equine Colic Relief by combining the first element from the sea that disolved impactions with three additional elements that when combined were proven to work with the equine's body to STOP a normal bout of colic. The four parts of ECR and how they impact the colic process are as follows:
- Part 1: Original 1995 formula that as it is ingested, enters and begins to immediately soften hard, impacted matter to a pudding like consistency.
- Part 2: Works with the body to draw fluid into the dehydrated bowels. Dehydration halts motality therefore no or fewer bowel sounds. Dehydrated bowels do not contain electrolyte levels that are necessary for the bowels to have required motality (movement) therefore a state of stasis (no movement) occurs. When bowel movement stops an impaction forms and a bout of colic begins.
- Part 3: Restores electrolytes to regain bowel motility. Returning bowel sounds can usually be heard within 10-30 minutes and will continue to increase every 20-40 minutes as the softened impaction and/or anything inside the bowels begins moving forward toward ending the bout of colic.
- Part 4:Dissipates methane gas in bowels. During a bout of colic excessive methane gas from stagnating feces will gorge the bowels extending them outward and putting pressure on all adjoing abdominal organs. These organs become trapped and as they swell pain in the horse's abdominal area will increase causing violent behavior.
The ECR process ends as the gas is dissipated, the pain and pressure on the internal orgains is relieved and bowel movement returns to normal. By working with the horses's body to pass the impaction and end the bout of colic the amount of stress, pain and trauma to the horse is greatly reduced and the horse (and owner) can return to their lifes as if the bout never happened. Think about it - this means you are at the NFR, the Kentucky Derby, the horse show or trail ride you have been looking forward to and when your horse colics you give ECR - COLIC STOPS and later in the day still compete or participate!!!
